Saras Wisdom

so... in class the other day i was trying to avoid listening to my teacher... because he just stresses me out. so, i started to make a list. it was just a really random list of thoughts. and it turned in to an 'advice' list. of a lot of the advice i have said, or i've wanted to say, or should be said and understood by the world! so..... here you go. my life wisdom, from 21 years of life.

"if selflessness is really a flaw... Christ was one big flaw.. and since He obviously wasn't.... neither are we" - my dear friend Kris Alley has this on her facebook as one of her fav quotes. i totally forgot i said that until i read it. But i remember the experience surrounding such a statement. and whether some idiot thinks i'm 'too nice' and uses that as an excuse to get rid of me, i wont let it affect what i do to help those around me.

we have challenging experiences not just to suffer and whine about it, but to learn about it. it's a learning experience... so learn! - so i said something to this effect when we still lived in HI. and many of my friends will still quote it back to me. and i think it really is something we can all take and use basically every freaking day. whether it's forgetting our back pillow and having to sit in pain all day or complaining about having to move across the country. there is nothing too small to not learn from it. we need to learn from the good AND the bad.

if you aren't happy with yourself and who you are. and if you don't truly love yourself for who you are. 1. you are not ready to get married. 2. getting married wont change anything. it might even make it worse. - i know. obvious right? NOT. some people can hear this over and over again and still not get the hint. i look at this and say, 'okay... what don't i love about myself? what do i need to change about myself... for myself?' i'm not changing to fit what someone else is looking for, or to be the 'perfect girl' for some guy. i'm becoming who I am.

sometimes, you really do need to look out for yourself more than others. there comes a point when your health and well being becomes more important than others. you can't be crying yourself to sleep night after night because of your friends poor decisions. you can't be continually putting off your work, because a friend needs something. sure, sometimes that is necessary. but there is a time when you need to say 'no.' whoo. every time i say that word... it's invigorating!

without self-worth, you cannot have self-esteem, and you cannot have very strong self-confidence. now for definitions: self worth: knowing you're a daughter of Heavenly Father. self-esteem: your relationship with yourself, how you look and think of yourself. self-confidence: your outward expression, how you relate and work with other people. you cannot have true and meaningful self-confidence unless you have self-esteem and self-worth. and with out self-worth you can't have self-esteem. and as often as people do it, you can't overcompensate.. you can't have a lot of self-confidence to make up for your lack of the other two. unfortunately... i'm learning this one the hard way.

welp. i hope this helped someone out there. cuz i know for a fact that each of these has helped me at a different time in my life, and they all help me right now!
