one year ago i graduated from Brigham Young University-Idaho. It was one of the most exciting moments of my life. honestly, it was kinda anti-climactic, but thrilling none-the-less.i can remember the entire day like it was yesterday. i'm gonna let you re-live it with me, so i can have it down in words.
Friday, December 17, 2010.
Friday morning i had to work at 8, then at 8:45 Tiffany and I literally ran to the BYU-I Center that was being dedicated on campus that morning. [a memorial occasion for me since my first semester on campus was the semester BEFORE they started construction... i was at the ground breaking ceremony AND the dedication for that inspired building. awesome.] we got dang good seats, and got to listen to apostles speak and hear the dedicatory prayer. we then went and toured the conference center and the addition to the MC. i headed home because i had one final left in the afternoon (i can't remember which one).
after my final i IMMEDIATELY called Ferg. literally, walking out of the Clark building i was on the phone. we met up and toured the Conference center more. i still remember his excitement at seeing the 12(?) basketball court gym with the walking track above. As we were touring, mom and dad called to tell us they had arrived!! MOM AND DAD WERE IN REXBURG BECAUSE I WAS GRADUATING!! that's how i felt. promise.
we ran up the hill to Hillcrest and ferg drove us down to the Marriott where mom and dad were staying. mom and dad met Ferg, and then we all left to go to Olive Garden. (my choice for my pre-graduation dinner) it was fun to be there with mom and dad and Ferg. we got back to the hotel and Ferg had to leave (freaking jacob demanded they leave before graduation) i bawled my eyes out! i was so sad. i didn't know if i'd ever see Ferg again!
i went back up to mom and dads room and mom showed me the gardenia leis they had ordered for me, i cried harder... missing Hawaii AND Ferg. and also so excited that i was with my mom and dad. [looking back, i'm so glad i was able to get a hug from my mom at that moment. that is one of those times when a hug from your mom is probably the ONLY thing that can make life better]then we had to rush! i didn't want to be late for my graduation!! mom and i stopped at my apartment, while dad tried to go find church pants that fit better. i changed quick, didn't even have time to re-do my hair or make up. and off we went! on my way to GRADUATING!.
after we got there i found my fellow psych graduates and i sat with my roommate from MSP, Rachel. my mom brought be chocolates to snack on during the talks, and she gave me my leis. they were a HIT, everyone around me was commenting on how great they smelled. [in high school i had always dreamed of graduating from kahuku and getting hundreds of leis. i got a few fun ones when i graduated from high school. but having those leis around my neck completed my graduation. they were perfect.]
a guy from my home stake who was graduating in soc spoke. that was pretty neat.
then i got to walk across that stage, shake hands, and get my diploma.... cover.
the proudest moment of my life. as upset as it made me, it doesn't really matter that the lady butchered my middle name, or that i didn't know 90% of the people i was graduating with, it only matters that i graduated.

after we left graduation we went to celebrate with ice cream! what else would we do!? :-) we went and got arctic circle! mmm tasty. and then i went home to pack and clean and pack and clean and play with tiffy before i moved home forever.
that is how my college career ended and the post-graduation excitement began immediately. but that's a story for another day.

It was a great day, with a great girl, for a great reason. You have accomplished more than 2/3 of American's. A 2002 census recorded that 54% of American's have some college, but only 27% had completed a degree. Only 8.9% have Master's degrees and 3% have PhD's. Wow, your're Dad is really a minority :-)
