December 7th, 1941

Seventy years ago the Japanese military 'suddenly and deliberately' attacked Pearl Harbor, and the United States of America.

"December 7th, 1941. a date which will live in infamy." -FDR's address

2,388 Americans died in the attack
1,178 Americans were wounded

1,177 Americans were serving on the USS Arizona
333 of those servicemen survived the attack

Have you ever been to Pearl Harbor? i went again this spring. It is a solemn and sacred place to be. Reverent. When you go you watch a video about the entire thing. all the ships that were sunk and destroyed, all the servicemen that died. you learn about the process the Japanese had building up to it, how it was kept secret. that video itself is moving and humbling enough. and then you get on a boat and travel out to the memorial (pictured above). there you see a list of names of people who died on the USS Arizona. and you look into the water. you see part of the ship sticking up out of the water. you see the oil still leaking from the ship. and you can't help but think of the hundreds of people entombed in that ship. forever a reminder of that day.

Let's try to remember what today is. lets try to remember the importance of December 7th. lets try too think of all the people that gave their lives for this country. not just today, but every day of that war and any war.
